Winona Lake Town Council on Tuesday reached an apparent compromise with the city of Warsaw and two homeowners in Canaan Estates whose septic systems have failed.
The city and town have apparently agreed to let the two properties tap into the sewer system. Winona approved a tentative agreement Tuesday and Warsaw's council is expected to vote on the measure next Monday.
A representative for Canaan Estates earlier sought to have sewer service for all 14 lots. Warsaw rejected that plan because its sewage treatment plant is already near capacity. Winona Lake's sewage is treated by Warsaw. Canaan Estates homes will hook on through Winona Lake's lines.
In other matters:
Clerk-treasurer Retha Hicks said about 20 percent of the residents have not returned sewer status cards to the town. The annual update lets the town know whether the user is commercial, single family or apartments.
Town marshal Malcolm Gilbert said some vacant lots and other properties are currently in violation of the town's weed ordinance that limits the height of grass to 6 inches.
