Staff Report-
WINONA LAKE – People can now sign up to purchase trees as part of the Winona Lake Tree Program. It is the second year for the tree program overseen by the Winona Lake Tree Commission. This program comes out of a proactive response to the tree ordinance passed in 2010. The tree program provides up to two trees to be placed at residents’ homes in Winona Lake. This is a 50/50 program with the town matching 50 percent of the cost after the resident pays 50 percent of the cost. The cost includes the tree as well as the planting service. All that is asked of residents is to maintain the tree by keep the tree properly watered and trimmed. In 2010, the cost per planted tree was $52.50 to the resident. Pricing for 2011 may increase slightly. Payment for the tree planting is due at the Winona Lake Town Hall prior to planting. Two types of trees are available for 2011, maple trees (Autumn Blaze) and a Linden tree (Redman or Greenspire). These tree trunks are approximately two inches in diameter and stand approximately 10 feet tall when planted. For more information, contact Town Coordinator Craig Allebach at townmgr@kconline.com or 574-269-5112. The members of the Winona Lake Tree Commission are Cynthia Illingworth, Paul Schmitt, John Hawkins, Aaron Wilcoxson and Jeff Buriff.
