Winona Plans Appreciation Dinner May 22

Posted

WINONA LAKE - The annual Winona Lake Community Appreciation Dinner will be May 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Westminster Hotel. Cost for dinner is $11.50 per person. Reservations should be made and paid for by May 14 in the town clerk's office.

The evening includes entertainment, Village of Winona door prizes and the 2000 William Reneker Memorial Community Award presentation. It will be catered by Triple A (Three Sisters) of Nappanee.

The award is given in memory of the late Bill Reneker, who served on the town council and was its president when he died in 1994. The award serves as a reminder of his community service, which he performed in many capacities for Winona Lake.

The award recipient must be an individual respected by the community, involved in some form of service to the citizens of the town that results in significant impact on the community as a whole, and must have been a resident of the town at some point in the previous year.

Exceptions could be made at the discretion of Judy Reneker, Bill's widow.

The recipient is chosen in January by the Winona Lake Town Council with approval by Judy Reneker.

Past award winners are: Lee Jenkins, 1999; Dane A. Miller, 1998; Lisa LeMasters, 1997; Dr. Stephen J. Peoples, 1996; R. Quentin Rupe, 1995; and Brent Wilcoxson, 1994.

The award was established by Judy Reneker in 1994 and will continue during her lifetime.

Each recipient receives an engraved plaque. In addition, an award plate will added to an open plaque displayed in town hall.
