WINONA LAKE - The 2004 town budget was presented during a public hearing Tuesday, with no comments from the public.

The total proposed budget for the town is $2,042,266.

For 2004, the assessed valuation has been given as $70,450,000; last year's AV was $65.4 million with a tax of $1.27 per $100.

The estimated maximum levy is $971,462, with $798,679 to be raised from property taxes for the city's general fund.

The budget was advertised in the Times-Union Aug. 15.

Final budget adoption will be Sept. 9 at 6:15 p.m.

Clerk-treasurer Retha Hicks said the publicized rate is about the same as least year.

"Taxes were presented down one-third in anticipation of the (assessed valuation) going up two-thirds," she said. "Instead, the AV only increased by half."
