A Winona Lake man was arrested around noon Monday in connection with an alleged rape that occurred earlier in the day.

Nicolas Andrew Meade, 25, of 5790 Maple Grove, Winona Lake, was arrested on a warrant for misdemeanor battery and taken to the Kosciusko County Jail. The rape charge was added after the battery arrest. Meade is being held on $10,500 bond.

According to Chuck Hodges of the Warsaw Police Department, a 27-year-old Warsaw woman called to report an assault around 11:10 a.m. Monday. When police arrived at her residence, the woman told officers she was raped by a male acquaintance.

The woman said she knew the man, reportedly identified as Meade. When he rang the bell for her apartment, she let him in her residence. The woman said she and the man talked, then he asked her for a cigarette.

She told police Meade made advances toward her, and when she resisted, he forced her to the couch before forced himself upon her and raping her.

After the alleged rape, Meade left the apartment and was arrested on a warrant for misdemeanor battery.

The alleged victim was taken to Kosciusko County Hospital for an examination and then gave her statement to police.

Once the statement was finished, information was forwarded to the prosecutor's office and the rape was added to Meade's charges.

The incident remains under investigation by the Warsaw Police Department.
