WINONA LAKE – The Lee Anne Stewart Dance School is celebrating its 40th year as a family business in the area. The school has been known for outstanding dance productions and dance education, and this summer the school is bringing classes to the Winona Lake Community Center. Many of the Warsaw, Winona Lake and Silver Lake community members have been requesting that Lee Anne Stewart Dance School provide dance classes for families in the greater Warsaw area. The Syracuse dance school, located on the west side of Dewart Lake, draws many Warsaw families, but there are many more who live too far away or their schedules do not permit the trek to the Dewart Lake facility. Winona Lake seemed like the perfect location to start offering summer classes and the plan is to expand class offerings in the fall at a permanent location, according to a press release submitted. Currently the dance school has two locations, Syracuse (Dewart Lake) and Nappanee. The summer class line-up for Winona Lake includes classes in tap, jazz, ballet, ballroom, hip hop and contemporary. Specialty classes for preschool children include Mommy and Me and Imagination and Movement. Meghann Stewart-Wood, a Warsaw resident and daughter of Lee Anne Stewart, will be the instructor for the summer classes. Rhythm tap, jazz technique, ballet technique, pre-pointe and pointe are also offered this summer at the Syracuse location. “Our goal is to provide young people with a safe, friendly environment where they can learn to appreciate dance as an art form and a way to stay physically fit. Students are encouraged to achieve their personal best, help others and develop friendships,” said Lee Anne Stewart. “Many of the skills and self-confidence learned in dance classes carry over to other areas of our dancers’ lives, helping them to experience personal success and become productive community members.” Anyone interested in obtaining class information or attending one of the June dance productions may contact the dance school at 877-658-9875 or visit the dance school website at www.stewartdanceschool.com
