WINONA LAKE - A Kosciusko County Community Foundation grant of $12,000 for greenway construction has been received by the town, according to town coordinator Craig Allebach.
Allebach also reported on other springtime projects during Tuesday's town council meeting. He said the park season is beginning, with citizens enjoying the picnic tables.
He advised the council a new water line should be installed and it will run through the park's parking lot.
Town clerk Retha Hicks said she consulted with the London Witte Group regarding wastewater treatment increases requested by Warsaw. She said the group has questions for Umbaugh and Associates justifying the proposed price hike.
Heard from councilwoman Joy Lohse regarding the Convention Visitor and Recreation Commission's long-term tourism task force. Lohse is the council's representative to the committee. She said proposals to provide an economic impact study were reviewed from three consultants. Each consultant will be invited back to give a presentation before one is selected.
Approved a contract with Larry Long and Associates to serve as the town engineering consultant. The contract reflects a 3.7 percent increase for services per hour: $88 for the principal engineer, $57 for drafting and computer services, $83 for a two-man surveying crew and $26 for administration.
Awarded Phend and Brown the contract to provide an asphalt overlay on CR 250E. Councilman Jerry Clevenger questioned the quote of $8,988 because it was half the price of two other bidders. Public works superintendent Pete O'Connell said he talked with all the bidders and was sure Phend and Brown was aware of the extent of the project and what was expected.
Scheduled an executive session for 7 a.m. Thursday to discuss pending litigation.
Announced the Second Sunday Series at Rodeheaver Auditorium April 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Council members are Jeff Carroll, David Delp, Jerry Clevenger, Joy Lohse and Rolly Ortega.
