WINONA LAKE - Two house fires this morning are under investigation, with the cause being looked at as suspicious.

Winona Lake Fire Department was summoned to 113 Mineral Springs in Winona Lake about 2:10 a.m. The fire also spread to the neighboring home at 111 Mineral Springs.

According to WLFD Assistant Chief Kip Shuter, the occupant of the first residence was not at home at the time of the fire. Kendall Coleman was living in the house owned by Mark Workman.

Brian Best, the owner/occupant of the home at 111 Mineral Springs, was awakened by a smoke detector.

No injuries were reported to homeowners or firefighters.

The fire is believed to have started at a storage shed located between the two houses and belonging to the property at 113 Mineral Springs.

About 37 men were on the scene to extinguish the blazes, with Warsaw Fire Department assisting the WLFD.

Damage to the houses is estimated at $60,000 to Best's residence and $75,000 to Workman's property.

The ongoing investigation is being handled as a joint effort among the WLFD, WFD and Winona Lake Police Department.
