WINONA LAKE - Councilman Jerry Clevenger addressed concerns he has with the appearance of a Warsaw property during Tuesday morning's Winona Lake Town Council meeting.
Clevenger presented a letter to the board he drafted to Dan Richard, Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission director, regarding Himes Property, 2200 S. CR 275E, Warsaw. The letter was in regards to his concern of the appearance of the property that is adjacent to Stonehenge Golf Club.
Clevenger said the house is not located within the Winona Lake town limits, but is adjacent to Winona Lake boundaries.
He said the property resembles a junkyard with abandoned cars, trucks, and trailers that are havens for rodents.
The letter also states that since the property is closely located to housing developments and outdoor recreational facilities, rodents present a potential health hazard for citizens.
"Neighbors' rights to enjoy their property and to realize appreciation of their property value is being impaired by the property owner," he states in the letter.
Clevenger said he will re-draft the letter and take photos of the property and submit them to the council before sending a letter to Richard to be reviewed by the Kosciusko County Commissioners.
During the meeting the council also approved an ordinance amending building code fees for new office, warehouses, retail establishments and commercial and industrial buildings in the town. The Winona Lake Plan Commission approved submitting building code fees to the council at its April 10 meeting.
The council approved an ordinance amending building code fees to include a permit fee for up to 2,500 square feet at $150; 2,501 to 5,000 square feet at $350; 5,001 to 10,000 square feet at $500; and more than 10,000 feet at $750.
The ordinance also includes a $25 electrical service fee and requires a permit for a resident constructing a public sidewalk.
The council also approved an ordinance making Union Street a one-way street eastbound from Chestnut Street to Park Avenue to accommodate the Greenway project.
The ordinance also states Oakwood Street north of Boys City Drive will be renamed Montague Lane where an additional stop sign will be located.
