Winona Council Hears Limitless Park Update

Posted
WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake Town Council Tuesday heard an update on a Limitless Park that will be built in Winona Lake Park.
Winona Lake Redevelopment Commission approved paying $100,000 for consulting and design for the Winona Lake Limitless Park, according to Craig Allebach, town coordinator.
The park will offer outdoor recreation for people of all abilities including a universally accessible splash pad, playground, year- round changing facilities, additional parking and shaded rest areas at the site of the current public park and playground in Winona Lake.
The $1.5 million park project is driven by community volunteers and being funded through private donations and grants.
The funds raised so far are $500,000 and groundbreaking will be May 31. The splash pad should be completed by the end of summer. The parks department has obtained two matching grants, $100,000 in individual gifts and $100,000 in corporate gifts.
In other business, Allebach provided information to the council reflecting an increase in cost to renovate the main lift station in the town from $600,000 to $900,000 because of additional screen work needed.
It was decided that the additional screening was not needed because Warsaw already does screening of the lift station. The cost will be brought down to $500,000.
Allebach informed the council the town is working on acquiring right-of-ways for Greenway Trail easements.
Pete O’Connell, street superintendent, said the street department has been plowing snow and will be clearing off the ice on catch basins.
