Winona Caucus Scheduled To Fill Lancaster's Vacancy

WINONA LAKE- A caucus has been scheduled to fill the vacancy left by District 3 Winona Lake Town Councilman Jim Lancaster.

The Times-Union reported Tuesday that Lancaster submitted his letter of resignation Tuesday morning to clerk-treasurer Retha Hicks.

A caucus had not been scheduled as of Tuesday morning, but Kosciusko County GOP chairman Randy Girod sent an e-mail Tuesday afternoon to town officials and precinct committee members Dave Wolkins, R. Wayne Snider, Janice Workman and Karen Wildman notifying them a caucus had been scheduled.

A caucus will be held Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. at Winona Lake Town Hall to fill Lancaster's term.

Interested candidates for the position must file a declaration of candidacy with Girod no later than 72 hours before the commencement of the caucus.

Declaration of candidacy forms are now available at the Kosciusko County Clerk's office, 121 N. Lake St.

Lancaster previously announced at the July 27 council meeting that he is resigning from the council to take on an international assignment with Biomet and is relocating to the Netherlands.

Lancaster said the relocation is for a minimum of two years, and he plans to keep his home in Winona Lake and return to the town with his family.

Lancaster was elected to the council in November 2007, and was serving his first term on the council.

The person selected to fill Lancaster's seat will join council president Terry Howie, councilman Randy Swanson and councilwomen Joy Lohse and Sue Gooding.
