WINONA LAKE - Insurance and a new street department vehicle highlighted the town council's meeting Tuesday.
The council awarded Beauchamp and McSpadden the contract to be the town's insurance carrier for a total annual cost of $15,451. The coverages includes liability and property protection on all town property.
The council also approved the purchase of a new pickup truck for the street department, for a cost not to exceed $12,965.
"We'll use the new truck to spray for mosquitoes during the summer and as an additional utility vehicle during the other months," said Kim Endicott, superintendent of public works.
In other business, the council amended the town's salary ordinance to pay all town employees an additional pay period in 1999, which has 27 instead of the normal 26 pay periods.
The council approved the design and 30-foot right-of-way for the newly created Rupe Drive, which runs between Kings Highway and College Drive.
The council also approved an amendment to the town's employee policy and handbook which adds five "wild-card" days for employees with more than 15 years of service. Those days can be used at the discretion of the employee. The change also caps longevity pay for town employees at 20 years.
