Winona Ave., Pope St. Rail Crossings to Close Monday
Posted
Staff Report-
Norfolk and Southern Railroad will close both the Winona Avenue and Pope Street railroad crossings Monday.
These railroad crossings are east of South Detroit Street (Ind. 15) near Warsaw Party Rental and behind Warsaw Cut Glass.
The railroad company is replacing railroad ties at and in between the crossings affecting both crossings at once.
Work in August on these crossings replaced the actual rail.
A railroad tie is a rectangular object used as a base for railroad tracks.
Ties are members generally laid transverse to the rails, on which the rails are supported and fixed, to transfer the loads from rails to the track ballast and subgrade, and to hold the rails upright and to the correct gauge.
The work should be complete and the crossings back open by late Wednesday, weather dependent.
East Winona Avenue is part of the city truck route, and trucks should use East Center Street as a detour. Traffic should avoid these areas, if at all possible.
