Winona Approves Splash Pad Regulation Ordinance

WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake Town Council Tuesday approved an ordinance for Splash Pad regulations on first reading.
The council will need to approve the ordinance on second reading at its June meeting.
The ordinance states children must have adult supervision at all times when using the Splash Pad; children who are not toilet trained must wear swim diapers; and proper swim attire is required and cutoffs are not permitted. The Splash Pad is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily this weekend through Labor Day.
A ribbon cutting was Friday for the Splash Pad.
The council also approved on first reading fees for kayaks, canoes, paddleboats and paddleboards.
Rental of canoes and paddleboats is $7 an hour or $20 per day; rentals for kayaks are $10 an hour and $30 a day; and rental for paddleboards is $15 an hour or $45 per day.
A $43,658.25 contract was approved with Phend & Brown to create a new parking lot on the south end of the Limitless Park and resurface the existing parking lot at Winona Lake Park.
The council approved a $52,998 contract for installing a new parking lot on Chestnut Street.
Contracts were approved to install decorative lighting on the Winona Lake island and on East Canal Street. A $8,198 contract was approved with Camden Construction for foundation work and a $18,450 contract was approved with Hoosierland Excavating for underground electrical conduit and concrete foundation work.
The council approved Ryan Reed being sworn in as a Winona Lake Police Department reserve officer.
Mitch Titus, fire chief, requested the fire department be notified when streets are closed during town events.
