WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake Town Council approved a contract for sanitary sewer pipe lining repair Tuesday night.
The council approved a $52,060 contract with Proform Pipe Lining for repair of the Wyland Ditch Bridge and Muirfield Subdivision.
Larry Long, town engineer, said the Prestwick Street reconstruction project work will begin Thursday when the streets in the subdivision will be repaired.
The council approved a $157,000 appropriation into the motor vehicle highway fund for street paving work in 2011. The funds were not spent in 2011.
In other business, the council approved to reduce the redevelopment general fund budget by $150,000 for money not spent in 2012.
During the meeting Mitch Titus, fire chief, said the 1995 fire engine was taken to Fort Wayne for its transmission to be replaced. This is the truck the fire department wants to replace in 2013.
Greg Winn, councilman, said he has met with the splash pad and limitless park committee. The committee is working on getting three quotes for a splash pad in the town.
Philip Hood, councilman, said some residents expressed concern of Greenway safety at Auditorium Boulevard.
He suggested there be a speed bump put in at the area to protect bicyclists.
Pete O’Connell, street superintendent, and Paul Schmitt, town marshal, will look at the issue.
Scmitt informed the council that the new K-9 dog, Bron, will participate in the K-9 Olympics next week.
Bron is a German Shepherd from Czechoslovakia. He was purchased from Vohne Liche Kennels, Denver, Ind., and replaces the former K-9, Hugo, who died.
The council also reviewed a wastewater fee study presented by Randy Swanson, council president.
Residents currently pay $36 a month for wastewater fees.
The council will need to decide by October if the wastewater fees need to be raised, lowered or left at the monthly wastewater rate.
The amount in the wastewater fund as of Jan. 1, 2012, was under $1.8 million.
