WINONA LAKE- Winona Lake Town Council Tuesday approved salaries for town employees for 2011.
Town employees will receive a 1.2 percent salary increase in 2011.
In other business, the council approved an ordinance for economic development refunding bonds.
Rich Starkey, Barnes and Thornburg law firm, Indianapolis, attended the meeting and spoke about the bonds.
"The ordinance is to help Grace Village refinance on an existing bond issue that Barnes and Thornburg did for Grace Village back in 2006," Starkey said.
He said Winona Lake does not have liability in connection with the bonds, but because the town has a tax exempt status, the Internal Revenue Service requires it to go through a tax exempt entity in order to issue the bonds so they can benefit from the tax exempt status.
"We are refinancing the bond just like you would for a home mortgage," Starkey said.
The council also approved David Swain to serve as a reserve officer with the Winona Lake Police Department. Swain replaces David Ruiz was recently hired by the Mishawaka Police Department. Town Attorney Jim Walmer swore Swain in Tuesday.
In other business the council approved purchasing 36 turkeys to give to Winona Lake Fire firefighters for Christmas.
