BREMEN – Willis E. Berkey, 87, Bourbon, passed away Feb. 14, 2014, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. He was born April 22, 1926, to Harry and Bertha Schrock Berkey. In June 1949, he married Sara. He was later married to Marie Berkey, who died June 17, 2004. On Aug. 11, 2006, he remarried Sara, who survives. He was a compassionate and thoughtful person, always willing to lend a hand. He was a people person with a quick wit and enjoyed socializing. He loved being outside, whether it was fishing, gardening or just spending time at the cabin in Michigan. He could be found at many local auctions and yard sales looking for his next treasure to add to his antique collection. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by his family and friends. Also surviving are three sons: Steven Berkey, Elkhart; Royce Berkey, Coeur-d-Alene, Idaho; Kurt (and spouse Tricia) Brandon, Bourbon; a daughter, Debbie Shoemaker, Leesburg; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dean. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.
