THE DALLES, Ore. - William Lester Atchison, 76, of Dufur, died Nov. 28, 2008, in Evergreen Nursing Home, The Dalles.
He was born July 15, 1932, in Pierceton, to Floyd and Bertha Atchison. On Aug. 7, 1954, in Warsaw, he married Barbara E. Robison, who survives.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with two Bronze Stars, an Army Occupational Medal, a United Nations Service Medal and a Korean Service Medal. He was recognized and honored with two Expert Marksmanship Medals. He retired from Oregon Cherry Growers, The Dalles, after many years.
Also surviving are a son, Kim (and spouse Margaret) Atchison, The Dalles; three daughters: Janet (and spouse Dan) Martin, Government Camp; Barbara (and spouse Don) Tibbets, The Dalles; and Linda Gidley, Dufur; brothers and sisters, Floyd Jr., Don, Janice, Marilyn and Carol; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
Cremation was at Win-Quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home, The Dalles, in charge of arrangements.
A graveside memorial service with full honor guard will be at a later date.
