William H. 'Bill' Wilfong

SOUTH WHITLEY - William H. "Bill" Wilfong, 82, of Whitley County, died at 3:26 p.m. June 8, 2007, in his residence.

He was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Maroa, Ill. On Jan. 6, 1946, he married Bonnie Lea Fitch, who died March 29, 1981.

He completed his education at South Whitley High School. Living most of his life in Whitley County, he moved to his present residence south of South Whitley in 1988. He was a farmer; sold Pioneer Seeds for more than 30 years; worked at Dana Corp., Fort Wayne, for more than 10 years; and co-owned Jenkins Farm Supply for nearly 20 years.

Surviving are two sons, Rex E. Wilfong, Huntington, and David W. "Fuzz" Wilfong, South Whitley; three daughters, Evelyn L. Patrick, Wabash; Mrs. Jim (Donna J.) Baxter, South Whitley; and Mrs. Warren (Patricia A.) Harlan, North Manchester; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Wilfong, Goshen; and two sisters, Jewel Crume, South Whitley, and Wilma Mitchell, North Webster. He was preceded in death by a son, two sisters, two half brothers and two half sisters.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley, with the Rev. David Wagner officiating. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
