William E. Turner, 87, of 321 Rexford Drive, Fort Wayne, died at 4:20 p.m. April 10, 2010, in Waters of Summit City, Fort Wayne.

He was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Fort Wayne, to Herbert and Joyce Barker Turner. On July 10, 1945, in Fort Wayne, he married Rosemary DeFravel, who survives.

A lifetime Fort Wayne resident, he was a mechanical engineer for General Electric. He was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne; was a past master and oldest living past master of Southgate Lodge, Fort Wayne; Prisoner Of War Club; Masonic Lodge, Southgate; Scottish Rite; Mizpah Shrine; and American Legion Post 296, Fort Wayne. He was an Air Corp officer during World War II, serving as a B24 Bombardier and a POW in 1945, in Moosburg, Germany, at Stalag VII for eight months. He loved his family and was married for 60 years.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert (and spouse Julie) Turner, Warsaw, and John (and spouse Pam) Turner, Elburn, Ill.; two grandchildren, April (and spouse Brandon) Aylor and Aaron (and spouse Abby) Turner, all of Warsaw; a great-granddaughter, Addysin Aylor, Warsaw; and a brother, Dick Turner, Sanford, N.C. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity English Lutheran Chapel, Warsaw, with the Rev. Frederick Hasecke officiating. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.

Calling is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
