William Baumbaugh, 91, of Syracuse, died March 31, 2010, in his son's residence in Granger.
He was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Gas City, to Harry W. and Sadie Maloy Baumbaugh. On Oct. 8, 1949, he married Vella May Smith, who died in 2001.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps 5th Air Force in World War II. He retired from the newspaper business as a printer. He worked for several publications during his career. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both in Syracuse.
Surviving are two sons, Alan Baumbaugh, Syracuse, and Barry (and spouse Carole "Kelly" Havens) Baumbaugh, Granger; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Jim Tormey officiating. Military honors will follow at the funeral home. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with a military walk through at 5 p.m.
