Wildcats Lead Roundup With First Win Of The Season

PERU – Whitko High School’s varsity boys basketball team closed the 2014 portion of its schedule on a positive note.
With three players scoring at least 17 points, the Wildcats topped North Miami 77-55 Tuesday in the consolation round of the Miami County Tournament at Peru High School.
It was the first win of the season for coach Roger Fleetwood and the Wildcats, who led 21-8 after the first quarter and improved to 1-7. North Miami is also 1-7 now
Sophomore Nate Walpole led Whitko with 27 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, while freshman River West added 20 points, seven boards and five assists.
Senior Cole Kessie and junior Devon Adkins chipped in with 17 and 11 points, respectively, in the win.
The Wildcats are in action again Jan. 9 when they host Three Rivers Conference rival Rochester.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Tuesday in N. Manchester
The Mancheter Lady Squires fell 44-41 to Southwood Tuesday in the consolation round of the Wabash County Tournament.
With their fifth-straight loss, the Lady Squires fell to 4-8 on the season.
Manchester led the Lady Knights 10-8 after one quarter of play and 25-18 at halftime, but were outscored 12-7 in the third and 14-9 in the fourth.
Rae Bedke led Manchester with nine points, while Bailey Sewell and Cierra Carter chipped in with seven and six points, respectively.
The Lady Squires are in action again Jan. 6 when they host Central Noble.
Southwood, which beat Manchester 39-34 in Three Rivers Conference action on Dec. 19, improved to 6-7 on the season.

WRESTLING
Tuesday in Mishawaka
Kyle Hatch was the lone Warsaw Tiger wrestler to advance to the second day of the Al Smith Invitational at Mishawaka High School.
Hatch pinned three opponents in the 120-pound weight class Tuesday and improved to 20-0 on the season.
Rory Nolin was 2-2 on the day for Warsaw, including a win over the fifth-seeded wrestler in his weight class from Penn High School, but did not advance. Nolin is now 19-2 on the season.
Andrew Brock and Kameron Hile were both 2-2 on the day for the Tigers, but did not advance.
