SOUTH WHITLEY — A week after snapping its 43-game losing streak in Three Rivers Conference action, the Wabash football team almost got another win Friday night at Whitko. Tied 24-24 late in the fourth quarter, the Wabash Apaches were marching down the field. Feeling optimistic about knocking off the defending TRC champs, Wabash’s dreams were dashed when Zach Baughman picked off a pass and returned it 83 yards for a winning touchdown. The 30-24 victory, leaves Whitko at 3-2 overall and 3-0 in the TRC heading into this Friday’s conference game at Northfield. Whitko was actually outgained 362-170 in the victory, but made the big plays, as its first score was also made by the defense, as Tanner Gaff returned a 65-yard fumble for a score. Trace Killian also ran for a 12-yard touchdown and Tanner Hughes tallied 148 of the team’s 170 rushing yards, which included a 9-yard touchdown scamper.
