Students from surrounding libraries were entertained Saturday by a dance performance, consisting of kissing spiders, dancing with alligators, kidnapped letters of the alphabet and fighting gigantic slugs with horribly bad breath.
All in a day's work for the Fort Wayne Dance Collective, which collaborated with the Warsaw Community Public Library to bring a performance of "Where The Wild Things Are" and other stories to the Harrison Elementary gymnasium.
FWDC dancers presented interpretations of children's books to a large crowd of students and parents. Performed stories included, "The Z was Zapped," "Princess Smarty Pants," and various haikus.
Students from WCPL; the Bell Memorial Library, Mentone; North Webster Public Library and the Syracuse Public Library participated in five weeks of dance classes to prepare for their cooperative performance of "Where the Wild Things Are."
Nineteen library students, dressed as exotic animals and jungle vines, stomped and slithered across the gymnasium, after studying dance styles with the FWDC.
"It was great we were able to cooperate together and pull this off," Ann Zydeck, WCPL director, said. "The kids have really enjoyed preparing for this, and I think it all came together well."
The performance was funded by the Dekko Foundation, which helped the libraries with various creative activities over the last four years.
