MENTONE - Wilbur L. McSherry, 95, of 5353 S. CR 600W, Claypool, (Burket Community), died at 10:15 a.m. May 17, 2010, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw.

He was born Dec. 3, 1914, in Kosciusko County at his current residence, to Frederick and Dora Alice Tucker McSherry. He was married by the Rev. Sholty in July 25, 1936, in Fort Wayne, to Helen L. Hagans, who survives.

He was a lifetime farmer, raising livestock and grain. He graduated from Burket High School in 1932, where he played basketball, baseball and later was a bowler and played softball. He was a member of Burket United Methodist Church for many years and the Kosciusko County Historical Society. He loved to fish and enjoyed trips to Minnesota and Michigan to fish as well.

Also surviving are two sons, Fred (and spouse Marilyn) McSherry, Burket, and Steve (and spouse Diane) McSherry, Mentone; four grandchildren: Kevin and Keith McSherry, Cindy Hathaway and Stephanie Widmeir; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six sisters, four brothers and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastors Gary Loy and Sam Carns officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
