LEESBURG - A Tippecanoe Lake woman was injured Wednesday when her husband allegedly struck her in the head with a videocassette recorder. The suspect is in police custody.

Sylvia Castle of 418 EMS T26 Lane, Leesburg, was treated for her injuries at Kosciusko Community Hospital. According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report, Castle required staples to close a wound to her head and she also suffered bruising to her arm, shoulder and eye.

Police said Castle and her husband, Gary Thomas Castle, 44, were apparently fighting throughout the day until the altercation escalated about 6 p.m.

Several items in the house were reportedly broken and Mrs. Castle told police she was about to break the VCR when her husband picked it up and threw it at her. He claims he was defending himself.

Gary Castle was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on a charge of felony aggravated battery. He is being held on $5,000 bond.
