Wiesehan Officially Files For County CommissionerDon Wiesehan officially filed his candidacy for county commissioner, southern district.
He was accompanied by his wife, Ann, along with two longtime friends, James and Nycole Zimmerman. According to a news release provided, “Don would like to be a voice of positive change not only for the employees of Kosciusko County but also for the residents of this great community.”
• Transparency: As a county commissioner, Wiesehan would like to be able to raise more awareness and public involvement in the monthly commissioners' meetings.
• Fiscally Responsible: Provide better management and oversight of approved budgetary items. “As your commissioner, I will work diligently to ensure that I work within the limits of the county budget,” the release states.
Wiesehan is a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County and a 1986 graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School. After high school, he joined the U.S Army Reserves from 1987 to 1992. He allowed his contract with the reservist to expire and received an honorable discharge before taking a position as a police officer for the Winona Lake Police Department.
In 1995, he joined the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office before retiring in 2019, after 25 years of service. While with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, he was a lieutenant in the patrol division. From 2012 to 2017, he was the jail commander. Part of his duties were operating budgets and providing reports for the county council, county commissioners and judges. After retirement from the Sheriff’s Office, Wiesehan accepted a position with Parkview Police in Fort Wayne.
He has been involved in many different things throughout Kosciusko County. He was a football coach at Tippecanoe Valley High School, coached track and Little League Baseball at Mentone. He also served as a volunteer fireman for the Winona Lake Fire Department.
Wiesehan is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge, Mizpah Shrine Club and the Horse & Pony Committee of Kosciusko County. He is a past president of the Kosciusko County Fair Board.
He and Ann live outside Mentone and have been married for 31 years. They have two grown children, Zachary and Dusty, and a grandchild, Hadley, with another grandchild expected in March. They attend Redeemer Lutheran Church in Warsaw.
