Storm damage was minimal in Kosciusko County, but just across the county line at South Whitley, downed trees and structural damage were evident throughout town.
"We had massive storm damage, I think," said town clerk Mitch Winger. "We had a wind shear or something come through. ... It seemed like it lasted for about 10 seconds only."
According to the Whitley County Sheriff's Department, there was storm damage throughout the county, with a lot of trees down and scattered power outages.
Winger said the bulk of the damage in South Whitley came in the form of uprooted trees and that roofs were reported off a couple of buildings in town. At least three trees fell on houses, with an estimated 40 to 50 trees down throughout the town.
Power was out in much of the town for about five hours, with longer outages in some areas.
In Kosciusko County, trees and electric wires were reported down in Syracuse and Sidney, with power outages at Lake Wawasee, south of Pierceton and in the Crystal Lake Road area. The latter of those outages was the longest, lasting about two hours and 45 minutes, according to REMC officials.
Trees and tree limbs fell in various areas as the winds moved through Kosciusko County, including a large tree that fell on a pickup at the Wesley Vining residence on South Oak Street, near Warsaw.
