SOUTH WHITLEY - Many events are planned this year for South Whitley's Fall Festival Oct. 11-13.
The festival weekend begins at 4 p.m. Oct. 11 with the tractor display registration on State Street, the Battle of the Bands at Kent Theatre, the opening of the baby contest at the town hall and the car show and the opening of the amusement rides, also on State Street.
The Amvets beef and noodle supper at the Amvets Post will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., with the public welcome. A fashion show will be held at 6 p.m. at the gazebo. At 7 p.m. at the town hall is "Art in the Heartland" reception and art show.
For a $1 entry fee, the euchre tournament begins at 7 p.m. at Eberly Hall. Simultaneously, live entertainment will begin at the Amvets Post, which is hosting an open house all day.
The Fords will perform at 8 p.m. at the gazebo and the night will conclude at 9 p.m. on State Street with the car show awards.
A way to begin the day Oct. 12 is with the pancake, sausage and scrambled egg breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. at the Amvets Post. Cost is $4, with seniors 60 and over half price.
Registration for the 5K run is at 7 a.m. at Whitko High School, with the one-mile fun run at 8 a.m., also at the high school. The 5k run/walk will kick off at 8:30 a.m.
The tractor display registration is from 8 to 10 a.m. on State Street with the display opening between 8 and 9 a.m.
The quilt and needlecraft show and the "Art in the Heartland" series art show begin at 9 a.m. at the library. Quilt show entries are due between 4 and 6 p.m. Oct. 10, at the library.
Registration for the dog show is 9:30 a.m. Oct. 12 with the actual show beginning at 10 a.m. in the town park The bake-off registration begins at 10 a.m., with the bake-off judging beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the gazebo. Tenderloin fry is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fire station, with the bake sale from the bake-off at 11:30 a.m. at the gazebo.
Ducky 200 is at noon at AmVets.
Parade lineup is at 3 p.m. at WHS, and the Sprint Parade kicks off at 4 p.m. at Mulberry and Main streets. Everyone is asked to show their American pride by wearing red, white and blue.
After the parade, bingo begins at the fire station at 5:30 p.m.
For more entertainment, several items are lined up at 7 p.m. A taekwondo demonstration will be held at the park pavilion; AmVets will have live entertainment as well as a pool tournament. Cost to enter the pool tournament is $10.
The gazebo from 8 to 11 p.m. is the place to be for karaoke.
The last day of the festival, Oct. 13, begins with a community church service at 11 a.m. in the gazebo.
All day, the "Art in the Heartland" series is in the town hall.
The tractor display is from noon to 6 p.m. on State Street, with the hog roast at noon at the fire station.
At the town park at 12:30 p.m. is the egg toss. The quilt and needlecraft show is from 1 to 3 p.m. at the library.
The Kiddie Parade lineup is at 1 p.m. at Star Bank, with the parade beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Main Street. The Big Wheel Race is at 2:30 p.m. at the town park.
The Alumni Band concert is at 4 p.m. at WHS, with a reception following the concert for the public.
Possum Ranch Puppet perform at 3:30 p.m. at the gazebo. The cheer clinic is at 4:30 p.m. at the tennis court park, for a cost of $5 per entrant.
Ending the Fall Festival is the variety show at 5:30 p.m. at the gazebo.
