Whitley Finalizes Addressing System For Trailer Park

Posted

SOUTH WHITLEY - The Park Lake Estates trailer park's addressing system was finalized Tuesday night after months of refiguring.

Larry Reynolds and Bill Easterday of the planning commission appeared before board members Glee Eberly, Tom Rudd and Tony Starkey with the final numbering system.

The town's latest housing addition, owned by Jeff Spear, has six occupied manufactured homes. The initial street layout had two names for an east - west street and one name on streets running east and west and north and south. EMS personnel, the post office and 911 planners did not approve this system.

"Apparently we hadn't appropriately done our homework when the recommendation was made," said Reynolds, plan commission president. "It's unfortunate for people who have changed their address and ordered new checks. Of course Jeff (Spear) has an investment in signage, too."

The board also heard plan commission members Jack Bishop and Stan Duggins plan to resign when their terms are over Dec. 31.

The board received a letter from Bishop indicating his resignation as building commissioner, a post he's held for 10 years.

Reynolds recommended the board review the method of paying for a building commissioner's services. Currently the position is paid through location permit fees, while the county collects fees from other required permits and follows up with inspections.

Mark Myhnier, a park board member, approached the board with a contract naming Gove and Associates authors of a five-year plan mandated by the DNR and due in rough draft form Jan. 15. Costs for the plan are $5,000 and will come from Whitley County Foundation funds.

The board approved a $,1500 expenditure for new fire hose as requested by South Whitley - Cleveland Township fire chief Tom Warner. The township's share of the cost is $2,200.

David Mains was named electric superintendent, hired at a rate of $17.50 per hour. Kent Slater was hired as assistant to Mains at $12.50 per hour.
