Whitko's Hurd Wins World TitleSEVEN SPRINGS, Pa. – While the Summer Olympics were being contested south of the equator in Rio de Janeiro, Whitko High School’s Amy Hurd was busy becoming a world champion in archery. Scoring 291 points out of a possible 300 in the NASP/IBO Outdoor World Championship, 24 of the 30 arrows she shot scored a perfect 10. “After my fourth target, I had only dropped 5 points. That’s when I knew I had a chance at this,” said Hurd. When asked what it means to be a World Champion and role model to girls who want to follow in her footsteps, her advice was, “Stick with it and practice as hard as you can!” Hurd was modest and smiled as she talked about her future in archery, sharing that she still had a lot to learn. After her victory, she’s been receiving a lot of questions about her interests in competing in the next Olympics. While she would be required to transition from a compound bow to a recurve bow, has a bright future that could lead to Tokyo in 2020! Hurd is a senior at Whitko and finished this round of competition to complete her junior year, which leaves her eligible to compete in her final season next summer.
