SOUTH WHITLEY – New Haven’s varsity baseball team scored early and often Monday evening, beating the host Whitko Wildcats 14-1 in five innings. The Bulldogs, who improved to 3-1 on the season, scored three runs in the first inning, and then added three more in both the third and fourth innings before plating five runs in the fifth. New Haven pounded out 13 hits in the win, including a home run by Hayden Graham and doubles by Garrett Mohler and Graham. Graham finished the game 4 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored. The Wildcats, who fell to 1-2 on the season, managed just three hits in the loss and committed three errors. Landen Goff, Alex Bechtold and Hunter Sroufe each hit a single for Whitko. Goff’s RBI single in the first inning brought Bechtold home for the team’s lone run. Sean Ferguson was credited with the win on the mound for New Haven after four innings of work. He gave up one run, three hits, two walks and struck out four. Riley Anderson took the loss for Whitko, giving up six runs, five hits, three walks and striking out two in three innings. The Wildcats will be in action again Wednesday in a 5 p.m. game at county rival Churubusco.
