BENTON – Whitko High School’s best volleyball season since 1998 came to a close Tuesday night. Playing the host Fairfield Lady Falcons in the opening round of Class 3A sectional action, the Lady Wildcats were swept by scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-18. Whitko finished the season with a record of 13-19. Elaine Warner led Whitko with 20 assists, while Kaity Reed added 11 digs, four kills and three blocks. Maddie Gawthrop led the way in kills with eight, while Tressa Keim added four. Emily Day had three blocks for the Lady Wildcats, while Keim had an ace. Fairfield, the 10-time defending sectional champion, will play Lakeland at 11 a.m. Saturday. Tippecanoe Valley and Wawasee will square off Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by West Noble and NorthWood. Thursday’s winners will play Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The sectional final is slated for 5 p.m. Saturday.
