MARION — The Whitko baseball team returned from Marion High School with a pair of victories Saturday afternoon. Improving to 3-0 on the year, Whitko won the first game of the doubleheader 6-0, then claimed the second 12-2 in five innings. “We played pretty well today,” Whitko coach Erik Hisner said in a statement. “Outside of a few minor defensive lapses, and a slow start offensively in Game 1, I am really pleased with our execution, especially this early in the season.” Ethan Nicodemus was the Game 1 winner, pitching a complete game shutout, striking out seven and allowing three hits. At the plate, Austin Sturgess and Zach Snep each went 2 for 4 with an RBI. In Game 2, Tanner Gaff was the star, getting the win on the mound, while also going 2 for 2 with two doubles and two runs. Sturgess also picked up two more hits in the second game, including a double and two runs scored. The Whitko Wildcats are out of school for spring break and will return to the diamond April 15 at home against Wawasee.
