SOUTH WHITLEY – Several Whitko High School students were surprised to be called to the main hallway recently, only to find their principal waiting for them.
It was good news though, and Kathy Longenbaugh presented 15 students with College Board's 2026 National Recognition Program honors. The program recognizes students' high school academic achievement, according to a news release from Whitko Community Schools.
School Recognition Awards were presented to Lincoln Bowers, Madison Miner, Konnor Clester, Anna Craft, Isla Rose, Ally Brown, Autumn Deneve, Crew Ebbinghouse, Vera Mabon and Abigail Griffith of the class of 2027; and juniors Anna Ford, Jhett Ocken, Brady Banacka and Meredith Hindbaugh.
First-Generation Recognition Awards were received by seniors Lincoln Bowers, Madison Miner, Konnor Clester and Abigail Griffith and junior Brady Banacka.
Rural and Small Town Recognition Award recipients were Madison Miner, Konnor Clester, Isla Rose and Maxamillion Marcellino, who graduate in June, and junior Jhett Ocken, class of 2028.
Whitko High School Principal Kathy Longenbaugh congratulated the awardees. “Whitko is proud of their hard work and dedication,” she said.
The students can list the honors on their scholarship and college entry applications.
