Whitko Seeks Public Input In Superintendent Search

Posted

PIERCETON - As the Whitko School Board begins its search for a new superintendent, the board is looking for the public to give their input on the matter.

Current superintendent Dr. William Worl submitted his official notification in October of his intention to retire from the school corporation July 1.

The school board will hold public meetings in February in South Whitley and Pierceton to gather the public's thoughts, opinions and ideas on the hiring of the new superintendent before a final selection is made.

The South Whitley meetings will be Feb. 3 in the Whitko High School lecture room. At 4 p.m., there will be a meeting with Whitko administration and support staff, followed by a 6:30 p.m. meeting with the community.

The Pierceton meetings will be Feb. 10 at the Pierceton Elementary School conference center. At 4 p.m., the meeting with the Whitko certified staff will be held, followed by a 6:30 p.m. meeting with the community.

A questionnaire has been prepared for all those in attendance. The school board wants that information so board members know what the community wants as they proceed through the selection process.

The tentative timetable for the new school superintendent selection includes advertising the vacancy and receiving applications, now in progress. The meetings for public input will be the next phase, followed by candidate interviews.

The school board hopes to have a new superintendent selected no later than April 28, with that person assuming duties on July 1.

Whitko Community Schools Board of Trustees includes: president Hal Trump, vice president Dave Tranter, secretary Mike Braddock, Marie Trump and Pete Mitchell. The next regularly scheduled meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Whitko administration office, Pierceton.
