Whitko Second, Wawasee 12th At Goshen Relays

GOSHEN – Whitko’s boys track team finished second and Wawasee 12th in Class B at the Goshen Relays at Foreman Field on Saturday.
The Wildcats won only one event but had numerous second and third places to finish second overall. The 4x100 relay team of Garrett Elder, Brady Weeks, Alex Wilson, and Gavin Powell medaled as they won their section in 44.89.
Whitko’s throwers had a strong showing. Gavin Howard and Walker Hobbs were second and third, respectively, in the shot put while Conner Sherwin and Gavin Howard were 2-3 in the discus.
Alex Morales was second in the 110 hurdles in 15.14. Elder and Wilson both cleared 20 feet in the long jump, finishing third and fourth. The duo also placed fourth and fifth in the 100.
Two other relays also placed second: the 4x200 of Elder, Weeks, Wilson, and Zach Freel and the sprint medley relay of Powell, Weeks, Morales, and Freel.
Wawasee  earned most of its points in relay events. Sam Griner, Braxton Alexnader, Erick Meier and Luke Griner turned in a fourth-place finish in the 4x800, and the 4x200 relay team of Cole VanLue, Dylan Hepler, David Yankosly and Paul Mendoza was third.
The Warriors were also fourth in the 4x100 relay, with VanLue, Jacob Moore, Austin DeLaFuente and Michael Katzer completing the distance in 46.97 seconds. The foursome was also fourth in the 800 sprint medley relay.
Whitko returns to action Tuesday as they host Manchester, Lakeland Christian and Northfield. Wawasee runs against NorthWood and Elkhart Memorial in a meet being made up from Thursday and moved from Syracuse to Memorial.
