Whitko OKs Bids For Cafeteria Supplies

PIERCETON - For the 2004-05 school year, the Whitko Community School Corp. Board of Trustees awarded bids Monday for cafeteria supplies.

Whitko participates in the NIESC Region 7 Cooperative Purchasing Program.

The bid for bread and bakery items was awarded to Nickles Bakery; milk and dairy items, to Schenkel's Dairy; and cafeteria food and supplies, to Gordon Food Service, Stanz Food Service and Ludwig Produce.

As is usual for the summer, Whitko School Board also approved changes in employees.

Resignations approved include Linda Grant, fifth grade, South Whitley Elementary School; Cathy Rowe, sixth grade math, Whitko Middle School; Laurie Dorgan, teacher's assistant and Crossing Guard at Pierceton Elementary School; Jennifer Carr, girls' golf coach, Whitko High School; Nate Myers, assistant football coach, WMS; Lance Christianson, JV volleyball coach, WHS; Jerry Kreger, head football coach, WMS; and Roger Carr, agriculture education teacher and FFA adviser at WMS/WHS.

Employment approved included Bryan Sprunger, change from half athletic director and half industrial technology teacher to full-time industrial technology teacher at WHS; Carolyn Buckmaster, change from WHS librarian to corporation media specialist; Lisa Shisler, elementary music teacher at PES and SWES; and DeeDee Maggard, seventh grade volleyball coach at WMS.

In other business, the school board:

• Approved the fall testing schedules as follows: ISTEP+, Sept. 20 through Oct. 1; Graduated Qualifying Exam, Sept. 21-23; and MAP testing, Aug. 23 through Sept. 10.

• Heard a report on the No Child Left Behind Adequate Yearly Progress.

• Heard the building principals give their annual Public Law 221 reports.

• Approved the administrator/supervisor salary and contract recommendations and non-certified employee wage scales.

• Approved the advertisement for fuel and bus bids for the 2004-05 school year.

• Approved the board meeting schedule for 2004-05 school year including: July 12, 7:30 p.m., reorganization meeting, board of finance; July 19, 7 p.m., special meeting to review proposed 2005 budget, 7:30 p.m. regular meeting; Aug. 16, 7:30 p.m., regular meeting; Aug. 26, special meeting to adopt 2005 budget; regular meetings, 7:30 p.m., Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 15, Dec. 20, Jan. 17, Feb. 21, March 21, April 18, May 16 and June 20.

Board members are Hal Trump, E. Marie Trump, Michael Braddock, Pete Mitchell and Dave Tranter.
