PIERCETON - Whitko students in kindergarten through grade 12 now will be able to get help they need through the Student Assistance Program, approved Monday by the Whitko School Board.
The board approved as a pilot program the SAP, which will involve parents and teachers in helping students with serious, ongoing problems.
The SAP will include counseling sessions in cooperation with the Bowen Center, if the student's parents so choose.
The board also heard a report from Steve Nutt, of American Energy Conservation Inc., that heating, cooling and lighting renovations to the schools are completed but will continue to be monitored for 10 years.
Diana Showalter, Whitko's director of curriculum, said seven seniors have not passed the state's Graduation Qualification Exam. Only one, however, has not met the waiver requirements and will not graduate.
Commencement for Whitko High School will be May 26.
Whitko School Board meets at 7:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the administration offices in Pierceton. The board members are: Richard Deckena, E. Marie Trump, Larry Long and Deborah Collier.
