Academic teams representing Whitko Middle School competed April 30 in the annual state competition and had an excellent showing, including bringing home the state championship plaque in the language arts division. Academic Super Bowl teams, which are made up of 3,765 students from schools all over Indiana, met at several locales to compete in the state competition. WMS teams reported to Indian Springs Middle School and competed in division two against 53 other Indiana schools. The language arts team, Lia Gregory, De Shockney, Gavin Parret, Morgan Puterbaugh and Amie Fortman successfully answered 22 of the 25 questions which resulted in their being the best in the state, including divisions one, three and four as well as their own division two. Also placing in the prestigious top 10 were the math and social studies teams with seventh and eighth place respectively.
