Whitko Golf Team Wins TRC Championships In Local Roundup

The Whitko boys golf team won Saturday’s 2013 Three Rivers Conference Championships at Warsaw’s Rozella Ford Golf Club.
On the par-70 course, Whitko shot a 338, trailed by Wabash’s 341 in second and Northfield’s 343 in third.
Tippecanoe Valley was fourth with a 349 and Manchester was sixth, shooting a 380.
Northfield’s Trae Cole was the top golfer at the match, shooting a 77, while Whitko’s Daniel Zawlocki’s 79 was the runner-up score and teammate Colton LeTourneau was seventh with an 84.
Valley’s Bryce Zimpelman’s 82 was the fourth-best score, while Manchester was paced by Austin Whitaker’s 86.
Valley is back at Rozella today to take on Lakeland Christian Academy, while Manchester is at Fort Wayne Bishop Luers.
Whitko’s next match is Thursday at Sycamore Golf Club against Manchester, Valley and LCA.

Saturday in Culver
On Culver’s par-71 Mystic Hills Golf Course Saturday, the Warsaw boys golf team finished runner-up to NorthWood for the second time this season. NorthWood nipped Warsaw to win the Wawasee Invitational in April, and at the Culver Military Academy Invitational Saturday, the Panthers did it again, shooting a 309 to Warsaw’s 310. Instead of taking the best four scores from each team, the invitational was scored by the top four scores on each hole. Triton was fourth with a 314 and Wawasee shot a 320, finishing fifth. Warsaw’s Jon Schram was the medalist of the match, shooting a two-under 69, while Triton’s Quentyn Carpenter was third with a 73. Warsaw and NorthWood meet up again in a Northern Lakes Conference match Tuesday, including Goshen, at Nappanee’s McCormick Creek Golf Course. Wawasee will be in Plymouth Wednesday.

In a doubleheader in Fort Wayne Saturday, the Warsaw baseball team picked up a couple of losses. At Carroll, the Tigers lost the opener 5-3, then came back to fall 7-3 in the second game. The losses leave Warsaw with a 10-12 mark going into today’s Northern Lakes Conference game at Concord.

The Tippecanoe Valley softball team suffered a 15-5 loss Saturday at home against Central Noble. In the six-inning loss, Valley’s Mariah Benzing did hit a grand slam and Danielle Adams was 2 for 3. The 4-12 Lady Vikings are in Three Rivers Conference action at Rochester today.

Going 7-0 during the regular season then claiming Saturday’s Northern Lakes Conference Championships in Plymouth, the Northridge girls tennis team claimed the NLC crown. Northridge won the tournament with 49 points, followed by Goshen (43) and Plymouth (35) to round out the top three. Of the eight teams, Warsaw finished seventh (16) and Wawasee was eighth (3). Wawasee is at Whitko Tuesday and Warsaw’s next match is the sectional this week at home. The draw was set for today.
