Whitko Girls Lead Roundup With Win Over West Noble

SOUTH WHITLEY — The Whitko girls basketball team won in dramatic fashion Thursday night at home.
Hosting the West Noble Lady Chargers, the Whitko Lady Wildcats used a putback bucket by junior Aly Nicodemus, her only two points of the night, to win 64-62.
For the 6-3 Lady Wildcats, freshman Brianna Cumberland led the way with 25 points, converting 12 of 16 free throw attempts, followed by senior Jordan Hall’s 14 points and freshman Aly Reiff’s nine.
Up next for Whitko is Saturday’s Three Rivers Conference road game at Tippecanoe Valley.

Thursday in Winamac
Behind junior Cara Hoffman’s 20-point effort, the Tippecanoe Valley girls basketball team eeked out a 52-51 win at Winamac Thursday night. After scoring 40 points in the first half, Valley mustered just 12 in the second, allowing Winamac to make a game of it. Along with Hoffman’s performance, Valley also got 12 points from freshman Meredith Brouyette. The Lady Vikings host Whitko in a Three Rivers Conference contest Saturday night.

The Triton girls basketball team applied the first blemish to the Rochester Lady Zebras’ record with a 50-49 road win Wednesday night. Becca Kennedy came off the bench to lead the Lady Trojans with 17 points, while Krystal Sellers finished the game with 12 points and eight rebounds. The 6-3 Lady Trojans host South Central Monday.

The Wawasee boys and girls swim teams each posted Northern Lakes Conference victories Thursday at home against Plymouth. In the girls’ 143-36 win, Breanna Robinson (200 free, 100 fly), Shelby Adams (200 IM, 100 breast), Paige Miller (500 free, 100 back) and Kayla Hershberger (50 free, 100 free) each won two events, improving the squad to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the NLC. In the boys meet, Zac Hershberger (100 fly, 100 breast) and Logan Brugh (200 free, 500 free) each won two events in Wawasee’s 122-37 victory, improving the team to 2-3 in the NLC. The Warriors host their own invitational Saturday morning.
