Continuously serving Kosciusko County since 1854
SOUTH WHITLEY -ÊThe Whitko Wildcats wrestling team beat Westview 37-33 Wednesday.
Five Whitko wrestlers defeated their opponents by pin. Russ Mynhier had the quickest match of the evening at the 119 weight class when he pinned his opponents in 53 seconds.
"Russ Mynhier really came through at 119," said Whitko coach Rick Troxel. "He missed the early part of the year, but he's coming around when we need it."
Jason Loe, Keith Bird, Jordan Schrader and James Baumgartner each pinned their opponents as well. Joel Schrader and Lee Bowser won decisions as well.
"Keith Bird, Jordan Schrader and Jimmy Baumgartner all won the final home matches of their careers. We will really miss these guys. As a first year senior, Phil Ringle has done a great job this season."
Whitko is now 12-10 on the season and will wrestle in the Three Rivers Conference meet Saturday at Northfield.
"It's always good to win the last home match," said Troxel. "The seniors' parents get to see their sons go out as winners (all of our seniors have winning records), and since this is just the second winning season in the last 12 years, it should give the sport a boost.
"We've come a long way this year. You have got to be proud of these kids. They are wrestling so much better than early December."
