SOUTH WHITLEY - Dollars for Scholars is a national organization with local community-based chapters throughout the United States. These chapters are volunteer-driven scholarship foundations.
Whitko has a chapter. All money raised stays in the Whitko School Corp. and goes to qualifying WHS seniors annually.
Each spring, many seniors submit scholarship applications to apply for the funds raised through the local chapter, and many scholarships are granted.
The major fundraiser for Whitko Dollars for Scholars is the annual Phone-A-Thon. Last year, students raised $8,000 in pledges in a four-hour period of time.
Whitko Dollars for Scholars Phone-A-Thon is Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Forty juniors and seniors from Whitko will meet at the Embarq building in Columbia City to participate in the fundraiser.
