Whitko Baseball Team Leads Roundup With Win Over Busco

Posted
SOUTH WHITLEY – With a 10-6 win over county rival Churubusco, Whitko High School’s varsity baseball team improved to 5-1 on the season.
The game was tied 6-6 after six innings, and the Wildcats plated four runs in the top of the seventh.
Though the game was scheduled to be played at Churubusco, it was played in South Whitley because of wet field conditions.
“This was a good win for our ball club,” said Whitko coach Erik Hisner. “Over the last five years, we’ve had some very close games with Churubusco. Even with the 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, I knew it would be tough to close them out. You have to give their kids a lot of credit. That was a great comeback. We were lucky to get out of that sixth inning with the score tied.”
Ryan Wiegold was credited with the win on the mound. He pitched 1-2/3 innings, giving up two hits and one run. Wiegold struck out one batter and walked one.
At the plate, Wiegold was 2 for 4 and scored a run.
Alex Stoddard led the Wildcats’ offense, going 4 for 4 with a triple, an RBI and three runs.
Whitko is in action again today at 11 a.m. in a doubleheader with Garrett.
