Whitko Appoints Boggs To Replace Trump On School Board

Posted
PIERCETON - Whitko School Board voted unanimously to appoint Roger Boggs, Larwill, to replace former board member Hal Trump on Monday.

Trump resigned in June citing personal reasons.

Boggs will serve the remaining year on Trump's four-year term representing Districts II and III. Boggs' seat, as well as those of Dave Tranter (District III) and Michael Braddock (District I), will be up for election in May.

Tranter said seven candidates applied to replace Trump.

"It was a very tough decision because they were all people we know and respect," said Tranter. "There were excellent candidates. We're encouraging the folks who put their names in to run for school board in May."

Boggs has served as the head of Whitko Wildcats Athletic Boosters Club for almost three years. He also served on the Whitko Development Corp., a board formed to assist with the recently completed Whitko High School renovation project.

Tranter said Boggs' experience working with the school district was one of his key qualifications for the school board seat.

"He's very active in the athletic boosters and he's very well-known in the school district," Tranter said.

Boggs is the director of professional education at DePuy, Warsaw. He has a daughter and a son who graduated from Whitko Schools. He said a lifetime of living in the Whitko community, his perspective as a parent of former Whitko students, his business background and experience working with budgets are assets he will bring to the board.

Boggs said this is not the first time he has thought about joining the school board.

"I thought about doing it before," he said. "But I think right now is the right time."

Boggs said he expects hiring a new superintendent will be one of the main challenges faced by the school board this year.

He said he looks forward to working with the board.

"I'm a lifetime member of the community in Whitko," he said. "I love to be able to stay working with the school district and the board to help Whitko grow."
