What does it take to get help for an animal in this county? I have been on the trail by Zimmer several times, and every time I see a sad case of animal abuse.
There is a Chow dog at his owner's home that is in desperate need of a new family. I felt really sorry for this dog the first time I saw it. So on my way home I called the Sheriff's Department. I told them about the dog. The poor thing is on a chain to where he can't even move.
They had asked me to get the exact address of the home, and that I will be getting a phone call on this matter the next day. I never got a phone call, so I had my friend go on the trail with me the next day to witness the neglect of this poor dog. She was just as heart broken as I was. We went by the owner's home to get the address and, of course, it is not on their house or mailbox. So she decided to call the Sheriff's Department herself, and they gave her the same run around story of needing an exact address (even though we told them it was not visible, but we did give them the exact directions to the home), and that someone would get in touch with her the next day.
If they really cared or wanted to help this dog, all they would of had to do is go walk on the trail and see the neglect for themselves.
Well, guess what? Another walk on the trail, another phone call to the Sheriff's Department. My friend nor I have heard from anyone, and months later the dog is still living in the same situation. Except now the temperature is in the 90s and this poor dog barely even moves, he or she has absolutely has no life or energy left. The dog lays in dirt, no shade from the strong sun, the water bowl is knocked over, and should I mention again that he or she can not move around.
What gets me is that the authorities are constantly preaching about animal abuse and how every animal deserves a good life.
Well, I am one of the many to report animal abuse and also one of the many to get ignored from the authorities in this county.
Let's pretend that this was a child being abused and I had contacted the authorities. Would they not relay the message or go out there because the address is unknown? I truly believe that abuse is abuse even if it is just a dog.
Animal neglect in this county really needs to be taken more seriously because it is a crime.
