Angie Shirk was officially hired Monday as the new executive director of the Warsaw Housing Authority.
Shirk's hiring is effective June 21. She was one of 10 applicants for the job after the former director, Catharine Walker, resigned her position.
"We're pleased to have Angie and we know that she'll do a good job," said Bob Kline, WHA board president.
Walker will continue to work with the agency until Shirk is trained, including working together on weekends.
Shirk attended Vincennes University and has lived in the Warsaw area for seven years. Prior to joining the housing authority, she worked in the banking industry. Shirk began working with Housing Opportunities of Warsaw, WHA's sister agency, about four months ago.
She and her husband have three children.
Walker joined the board at its meeting Monday to familiarize Shirk with the various monthly reports and provided a little extra explanation for the board as well.
The board voted to allow half of a forgiveable mortgage from the Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation program to be written off if the agency receives payment of one-half the $8,435 mortgage. The homeowner is refinancing the primary mortgage and needs the WHA to agree to continue as a second mortgage holder or have the mortgage eliminated for approval.
In other business, it was reported that 33 families are searching for housing, six contracts were completed and eight contracts terminated.
The next meeting is at 5:15 p.m. July 26. The location will be announced.
