Housing Opportunities of Warsaw is working to raise funds to make repairs to a home that houses families faced with hardships.
During Monday night's Warsaw Housing Authority Board of Commissioner's meeting, board member Karen Moeller gave the board an update on the fundraiser for repairing the Upson House's leaking roof. The Upson House is on Center Street, Warsaw, and is a transitional housing program that helps put families back on their feet, according to an informational pamphlet.
Moeller said the bracelets were made by Lakeland Art Association members and packaged by Winona Lake residents.
The bracelets will be sold at local businesses in Syracuse, Claypool, Winona Lake and North Webster.
HOW Executive Director Pam Kennedy said plans are to sell the bracelets the week before Mother's Day through July 4. Kennedy said the bracelets will be sold at all three Courthouse Coffee locations.
WHA Board President Bob Kline made 10 display racks for the bracelets that will cost $24 each including tax.
The bracelets have a key and heart charm that symbolizes the many doors that are opened and the hearts that are touched by the Upson House.
The bracelets are made with three cut glass beads from Czechoslovakia along with assorted colored beads. There are currently 14 bracelets made, and there are plans to make 250.
In other business, Kennedy said there were 173 families who were part of the housing program in February.
There were 175 families using the program this month, and Kennedy said WHA hopes to increase the number to make up for months where the number was below capacity.
Kennedy also said Day of Caring will be rescheduled for Aug. 27 because volunteers from Grace College who participate do not start school until Labor Day.
The day is a time for volunteers to repair homes in the county.
Also during the meeting, Kennedy said K21 Foundation awarded the Kosciusko County Mobile Home remedies repair program $40,000 for home repairs in the county.
The funds will be used to complete projects such as installing new roofs, ramps and rotted floors in mobile homes in Kosciusko County.
Kennedy presented Kline with a train booklet from a Claypool resident thanking Kline for fixing a plumbing leak at the resident's home.
The board will meet at the housing office again May 19 at 5 p.m.
