Homes in Claypool may be more energy-efficient this winter.

Housing Opportunity of Warsaw and community volunteers will install weatherization kits and energy-efficient light bulbs Nov. 10 in Claypool homes.

Pam Kennedy, executive director of Housing Opportunities of Warsaw, informed Warsaw Housing Authority Board of Directors Monday HOW has received grants for the projects.

HOW received a $2,860 grant from Kosciusko REMC Operation Round-Up for the weatherization kits, and a $1,000 grant from United Way for energy-efficient light bulbs, Kennedy said.

HOW has installed weatherization kits in homes throughout the county in previous years. The kits include weatherization strips to put around doors to keep cold air out and caulk to patch walls.

"The kits are used to assist residents in how to lower their energy bills through energy-efficiency methods," Kennedy said.

The board also:

n Approved a housing program report for August. A total of 169 families used the program.

n Approved a $4,200 contract between WHA and Gilbert, Naragon, Terrill & Co. Inc., for accounting services for 2008 for WHA.

Board members are Bob Kline, Karen Bober-Moeller, Page Himes, Tammy Keirn, Joel Curry and Melissa Francis.
